Experience 'more important than education'

Research conducted by Kelly Services revealed more than three-quarters of employees feel this way.

According to the Evolving Workforce: Drivers of Career Choice and Career Progression, 57 per cent of those questioned plan to change career within the next five years, with higher earning potential and a better work-life balance cited as the main reasons for doing so.

Across all of the nations surveyed, respondents from generation Y are more willing to upgrade their skills in order to progress in their chosen field, with 64 per cent prepared to do so, compared to 60 per cent of generation X and 55 per cent of Baby Boomers.

Chris Jones, chief executive officer at City and Guilds, said recently that young people do not need to possess a degree in order to enjoy a successful career.
