Guardian Jobs promoting vocational education

The Guardian Jobs website is promoting the benefits of apprenticeships and vocational education ahead of the WorldSkills 2011 Event.

WorldSkills London 2011 is a unique competition that brings together young people from across the globe to compete in their chosen trade or specialism.

Guardian Jobs is using its website and the jobs section of parent newspaper The Guardian to raise awareness of what vocational education routes can offer to jobseekers and employers.

Sophie Relf, head of marketing strategy for Guardian Jobs, said: "While A Level results and University league tables command all the attention, vocational training and apprenticeships are just as important, and the only route into certain professions.  WorldSkills 2011 brings together young people to demonstrate and celebrate these skills, which can prove invaluable in the work place."

About 150,000 visitors are expected to attend the four-day event, due to be held from 5-8 October at the ExCel conference and exhibition centre in Docklands, east London.

In the run-up to the event there will also be opportunities for the public to try out various skills and trades at different locations across the UK, as well as 'showcase' demonstrations and performances from young people from schools, colleges and training providers across the UK.
